Published: 30 Jul 2024

On Tuesday 30 April 2024 signatories and community members celebrated the signing of the Mantiyupwi Local Decision Making Agreement in Wurrumiyanga (attended by the Hon Ngaree Ah Kit MLA and Member for Arafura Manuel Brown).

The LDM Agreement identifies 6 priority areas for the Mantiyupwi people. These are:

  • Cultural Governance & Leadership
  • Family Health, Safety & Wellbeing
  • Healthy Homes
  • Healthy Country
  • Education
  • Economic Development.

The 5 year LDM Agreement for Mantiyupwi formalises a commitment from signatories representing both community and governments to work collaboratively to progress the strategic priority areas and work towards the Mantiyupwi vision and objectives. While some priorities have been progressed, including the opening of the BMX track and the Ground Breaking ceremony for the Pumulayu Child and Family Centre, other priorities will require significant implementation coordination over the coming months.

Guided by principles such as self-determination, place-based, flexible, co-design and collaboration, the Mantiyupwi LDM Agreement demonstrates a commitment from the Northern Territory Government to partnering with the community in a meaningful way for the shared governance and control of service delivery.
