Regions

The Northern Territory is administered through 6 defined regional areas:

Each region is diverse and unique. The local decision making policy and guiding principles provide an opportunity for Aboriginal Territorians and key stakeholders to work collaboratively with government to identify priorities, needs, aspirations and place-based solutions at the local and regional levels.

Supporting Aboriginal leadership and participation is crucial for transforming communities in areas of social, cultural, environment and economic development. Our dedication to Local Decision Making and working towards Closing the Gap targets will help communities achieve self-determination, economic growth, service delivery improvements, and better access to data and information.
