Signing of the Mutchirr Local Decision Making Agreement for Nganmarriyanga (Palumpa)

  • The NT Government and leaders from Nganmarriyanga (Palumpa) signed the Mutchirr Corporation Limited (MCL) Local Decision Making (LDM) Agreement (the Agreement) on 25 June 2024 at a community celebration at Palumpa.
  • MCL represents Mutchirr authority and governance and has expressed a strong interest to work with the NT Government for increased community control across preservation of cultural heritage, caring for Country, health, local opportunities and strong community leadership and governance.
  • The Agreement represents a MCL’s vision to advance cultural, social and economic wellbeing of the community to create positive and lasting change, have a genuine voice in, and assume greater control of, decisions and service delivery impacting the broader Palumpa community, and develop strong and supportive relationships with governments, ensuring community and government priorities are aligned.
  • Importantly, the Agreement provides an ongoing platform for engagement and empowerment of community leaders through a series of agreed actions between the Parties.
  • Signatories to the Agreement are MCL, West Daly Regional Council, National Indigenous Australians Agency and the NT Government.
  • The Agreement is a call to action and confirms the NT Government’s commitment to supporting MCL in assuming greater control over its affairs.
